Creepy crawly creamy smoothie
Halloween wouldn't be halloween without some bugs and creepy crawlies around! So make these for the kids and watch them trying to scare each other
Prep time: About 20 mins (depending on how many bugs you make!)
Makes: 2 bug smoothies
What you need:
- 225g (8oz) frozen summer fruits, defrosted
- 1 banana, peeled
- 300ml (1/2pt) cranberry & raspberry juice
- Anchor iScream
- 1 apple, cored, sliced and cut into ‘fangs'
For the ‘bugs':
Apricot cockroach
- Use a dried apricot for the body
- Push pumpkin seeds into the sides of the apricot for the legs
- Use blackcurrants or sultanas for eyes
Kiwi caterpillars
- Using an apple corer, scoop out a bug body from a kiwi fruit
- Use sunflower or pumpkin seeds for the legs
Flying prune
- Use dried prunes or cherries for the body
- Use redcurrants or dried cranberries for the eyes
- Use green seedless grapes, sliced, for the wings
Blackberry bug
- Use a blackberry, dried prune or dried date for the body
- Slice up a kiwi fruit for the wings
Buzzing pecans
- Use pecan nuts for the body
- Use cocktail or glace cherries for the eyes
- Slice up apples for the wings.
What you do:
- Place the summer fruits, banana and cranberry juice into a tall jug and whiz until smooth with a hand blender, or use a food processor. (You may need to sieve the smoothie afterwards if there are too many seeds).
- Make the bugs - simply assemble and create. (Getting the kids to create the perfect scary bug is a great game!)
- Pour the smoothie into a tall glass, top with a large swirl of Anchor iScream and top with apple fangs and BUGS ...!
